  • Martin O’Neill returns as interim manager at Celtic after Wilfried Nancy’s sacking.
  • O’Neill becomes Celtic manager for a second time in just over a month.
  • Roberto Martinez is the 5/4 favourite to take over permanently next season.

Roberto Martinez Favourite for Summer Celtic Appointment

Veteran manager Martin O’Neill has been reappointed as interim Celtic boss, just a month after his first caretaker spell ended.

The 73-year-old replaces Wilfried Nancy, whose tenure lasted just eight games.

Despite O’Neill’s legendary status in Glasgow, it’s widely believed this is a short-term fix to stabilise the club after a disappointing run of results.

Celtic now sit six points behind leaders Hearts, and with their Scottish Premiership title hopes hanging by a thread, all eyes are on who will take the job permanently at the end of the season.

Roberto Martinez the Bookies' Pick

Current Portugal manager Roberto Martinez is now 5/4 favourite to return to club football and take the reins at Parkhead in 2026.

With Celtic fans calling for a fresh direction, Martinez’s name has gathered pace in recent days, despite his national team commitments heading into the summer.

The Spanish tactician has never managed in the Scottish game, but his brand of attacking football could suit Celtic’s identity, especially if they fail to win the title and require a rebuild.

Martin O’Neill, still hugely respected among Celtic fans for his early 2000s success, is 6/4 second favourite in the market, although it's seen as unlikely he will remain beyond the summer.

This is his second interim stint in the space of six weeks, and sources suggest he’s only in place to steady the ship until the board completes a full review of football operations.

What the expert says...
O’Neill’s back for now, but this feels like a stopgap. Martinez has top-level credentials and might see Celtic as the perfect return to club management
