Tournament Winners in 2025/26

Below is a table of all the major tournament winners and runners-up for the last twelve months. 

We saw fourteen different winners of the twenty main tournaments on the WST in 2025/26:

The table above does not include minor events such as the Championship League and the Shootout.

There were four multiple winnerevent s in 25/26 season. Detailed as follows:

Only one trophy for current World Number One, Judd Trump, last season but he did make it to four other finals. For the first time in a long while, his position at the top of the world rankings could be under threat this season. How will Trump respond?

The seedings are a useful guide when considering a bet on any of the major snooker events. In the table above you can see that eighteen of the twenty tournaments were won by players ranked in the top twenty.

Perhaps the only real big shock of the season was the win of the forty-first ranked Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in the World Open, who was winning only his second ranking event in a career that stretches back to 2009. Un-Nooh's only other ranking event victory came in the 2019 Shootout so it could be argued the World Open was his first meaningful tournament win.

Some other lowly ranked players made it to finals, such as Anthony McGill (58) British Open and Chang Bingyu (68) Scottish Open. The last named looks a player to follow  and could go one place better in an event this season.

If you have your eye on an outsider winning a big event this year one of the Home Nations tournaments are probably the most likely to provide a shock.

Shanghai Masters History

Dominic Dale won the second of his two ranking events when taking the very first Shanghai Masters in 2007. Dale beat fellow Welshman, Ryan Day 10-6 in the Final.

The following year, Ronnie O'Sullivan made the first of his six appearances in the Final, but was beaten 10-8 by Ricky Walden, who was winning his first ranking event. 

O'Sullivan rectified matters the following year when defeating Liang Wenbo 10-5 in the 2009 Final. O'Sullivan would go on to four more Shanghai Masters' victories in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2023

Apart from O'Sullivan, Ding Junhui, Kyren Wilson and Judd Trump are the only other players to win the Shanghai Masters more than once.

Shanghai Masters 2025: Draw and results

Kyren Wilson lifted the Shanghai Masters trophy for the second time, ten years after his first success.

2024 World Champion Wilson just outpointed Ali Carter in a tense and absorbing final where the match was won courtesy of a 57 break from Wilson to snatch the twentieth frame after Carter had raced into a 56 point lead. 

This was Wilson's fifth big win since becoming World Champion and he is starting to press Judd Trump for the World Number One spot.

Beaten finalist Ali Carter was frustrated at getting so close to a major title but he can be compensated by the runners-up prize of 105,000 pounds, especially as he wasn't even due to play in the event and came in as a late replacement when Mark Allen withdrew.

Shanghai Masters 2024: Draw and results

Judd Trump claimed one of the few big titles that has alluded him so far in his career with an emphatic display when overpowering Shaun Murphy by eleven frames to five. 

Trump had ended the first session with a 7-3 lead and underlined his superiority by winning the first three frames of the evening session to set up a seven frame advantage. Murphy responded with back-to-back centuries but this was little more than adding some credibility to the score and Trump closed out the match in frame sixteen.

After Trump's disappointing exit at the quarter-final stage in the World Championship, this victory (and his demolition of O'Sullivan in the semi-final) suggests that the thirty-four-year-old means business in the 2024/25 season. Trump was recording his sixteenth title since 2020 and for such a dominant force it must rankle with him that he still has only one world title to his name. Bookmakers currently make Trump 9/2 second favourite to lift the World Title next May.

Three of the higher rated seeds lost in Round Two with defeats for Luca Brecel, Mark Allen and a painful 6-0 drubbing for the World Champion, Kyren Wilson.

Ronnie O'Sullivan won his 20th consecutive match in the Shanghai Masters when easing through 6-1 against wildcard Zhou Jinhao. 

Recent Championship League champion Ali Carter came out worst in a final frame decider with former Shanghai Masters champion, Ding Junhui. Carter made two centuries to pull back from 4-1 down to get to 5-5 only for Ding to produce a break of 95. Ding now faces old foe Ronnie O'Sullivan in the quarter-final on Thursday afternoon.

Final (21 frames)

Ronnie O'Sullivan 11 v Luca Brecel 9

Ronnie O'Sullivan won an amazing fourth consecutive Shanghai Masters and now has gone eighteen matches undefeated in this event.

There have been five previous matches between these two players with the head to head at 3-2 in favour of O'Sullivan. Brecel won the match that mattered most when the Belgium player won the last seven frames to win the 2023 World Championship Quarter-Final, 13-10. 

In terms of Finals, O'Sullivan has won four out of the last five finals he has played in. Brecel has won three of the last five finals he has played in, including the last World Championships. O'Sullivan has been the heavier scorer in the earlier rounds having six centuries compared to Brecel's two.

The two great rivals clashed once again and Selby took a 5-4 lead after the first session. Frames were exchanged in the second session until the score hit 7-7 but then O'Sullivan went into overdrive with breaks of 69, 109 and 118.

A first victory for Brecel over Robertson, with the World Champion losing his four previous meetings with the Australian. Brecel raced into a 3-0 lead and maintained a lead throughout the rest of the match.

Quarter Finals

Ronnie O'Sullivan 6 John Higgins 5

O'Sullivan maintained his record of beating Higgins in all their meetings in the Shanghai Masters with a tense 6-5 victory after being 5-2 down. Four centuries in the match.

Mark Selby 6 Judd Trump 1

A surprisingly comfortable victory for Selby who has picked up where he left off with his form in China. Selby's five breaks over fifty were far too good for Trump who has to wait for another year for his first Shanghai Masters title.

Neil Robertson 6 Fan Zhengyi 1

Another conmfortable victory but this one was perhaps more expected than Selby's over Trump. Robertson didn't need to be at his best to overcome Fan and the Australian managed two 50+ breaks and a century break to clinch the match

Luca Brecel 6 Robert Milkins 3

Luca Brecel seems to be finding the mantle of being World Champion very much to his liking and he did well to come through 6-2 against Milkins after being 2-0 down. Three breaks over 50 for the Belgium player.
